「モルモン書の記録は，紀元前600年のエルサレムに始まります。
ユダ王国，ゼデキヤ王の治世に，
リーハイという預言者がエルサレムに住んでいました。
旧約聖書のエレミヤ書，第35章から37章の時代です。
預言者リーハイとその家族は，神に導かれて船を建造し，アメリカ大陸へ渡ります。
この土地でリーハイの子孫は繁栄し，南北アメリカ大陸に広がりました。
ニーファイ人とレーマン人の2大勢力に分かれ，互いに対立して戦争の歴史を繰り返します。
『モルモン書』のクライマックスは，
エルサレムで十字架刑を受けたイエス・キリストが
復活してアメリカ大陸を訪れたことです。
イエスの姿を目のあたりにした2,500人が証言しています。
それは，紀元34年の末のことでした。
イエス・キリストが降臨してから200年の平和な時代の後，
民は分裂して再び争い合うようになります。
紀元400年ごろ，ニーファイ人がレーマン人に滅ぼされました。
ニーファイ人の最後の生き残りである預言者モルモンが，
金版に記された民族の記録を編集して要約版を作ります。
その記録はモルモンの息子の預言者モロナイに託され，
モロナイは，後世に伝えるべく金版を地中に隠しました。
1827年，ニューヨーク州パルマイラで地中より金版が取り出され，
英語に翻訳したものが，『The Book of Mormon』と題して
1830年に出版されます。
日本語版の初版は明治時代，1909年に出版され，
その後何度もの改訳を重ねました。
それがこの『モルモン書』です。」

'The record contained in the Book of Mormon starts in 600 BC. In Judea during the reign of King Zedekiah there was a prophet named Lehi living in Jerusalem. It was the period recorded in chapters 35~37 in the book of Jeremiah in the Old Testament. Led by God, the prophet Lehi and his family built a ship and traveled to the American continent. The descendants of Lehi prospered there and spread over North and South America. They split into 2 large groups--the Nephites and the Lamanites and their history was one of repeated conflicts and wars with each other.
The climax of the Book of Mormon is when that Jesus Christ who had been crucified in Jerusalem visits the American continent as a resurrected being. 2500 inhabitants testify that they physically saw Jesus.
After Jesus Christ's visitation, there was a period of peace that lasted 200 years, but then there were divisions among the people and they again began fighting with each other. In approximately 400 AD, the Nephites were annihilated by the Lamanites. The last surviving Nephite was the prophet Mormon, and he took the records of his people that were written on gold plates and created an edited, abridged version.
That record was entrusted to the prophet Moroni who was the son of Mormon, and Moroni hid the gold plates by burying them in the earth so that the record could be conveyed to future generations.
In 1827 in Palmyra, New York, these gold plates were removed from the earth and translated into English, and this was published in 1830 as 'The Book of Mormon.' The first Japanese edition was published in 1909 during the Meiji Era, and it has since been retranslated a number of times. That is the history behind 'The Book of Mormon.' '
